The Glasgow Boys

The University’s collection of Glasgow Boys and Girls includes more than 200 works, from their early careers to their later, more established years. Among them are well-known works inspired by French Realism and Scotland itself, such as George Henry’s Edge-Cutter [long-term loan], or Alexander Herrington Mann’s Hop-Pickers Returning [long-term loan]. The Boys’ interest in travelling is illustrated by the presence of many works painted abroad, such as George Henry and Edward Atkinson Hornel’s Japanese pictures or Stansmore Dean’s By Way, Old Holland among many others. The collection also includes little gems such as David Gauld’ Music, that illustrate less well-known aspects of the Boys’ work.
