A lower jaw of a very close relative of the modern leopard (Panthera pardus), found in the same deposit, has canine teeth which fit very closely the two punctures at the back of the skull. The upper canines would have pierced the eye-sockets and it is reasonably clear that, following the kill, this unfortunate child would have been dragged by the head to the leopard's lair for consumption at leisure. |
